Seven years' experience teaching across a variety of ages and abilities, from 4 to 70, from beginners and casual hobbyists to advanced grades and undergraduate students. I have taught in a diverse range of educational settings, including home tuition, online, private studios, schools (as both a peripatetic music tutor and teaching assistant), and charities (working in Southend YMCA's music studio). I have an enhanced DBS and undergo annual safeguarding and GDPR refreshers.
A flexible and personalised approach to teaching, which caters for each student's individual needs and ambitions without ever losing sight of what is required to achieve technical proficiency and sound musical understanding. Students are encouraged from an early stage to try to learn pieces by themselves, in order to cultivate self-reliance and strong sight reading skills. When teaching children I like to work closely with parents to help them support their child's learning. My areas of speciality are classical, contemporary classical, soundtracks, and electronic music but I am comfortable teaching all styles. Where appropriate I work towards ABRSM grades, and have a 100% pass rate. I host an annual showcase for students in order for them to gain experience performing, and to motivate and inspire each other.
